A Vacation
Well, I've throughly enjoyed myself for the past 24 hours. Last night presented the fun of watching the six Scroggins children...Dinner, GameCube, and movies were watched. Needless to say, D., James, and I all ended up scared over Little House on the Prairie...
Today, J.V. and I decided to go on "vacation." The day has truly been an interesting one...From tanning on a trampoline, to swimming and relaxing, to Starbucks, to a scary movie, the day has been quite random and "vacationy." Summer tis fun...

Brass Plate Quote
I realized tonight that I've never introduced you dear readers to "The Brass Plate Quote of the Day." This little phrase was born in my early high school days...Any profound quote or thought that I came across might receive the honor of being deemed worthy enough to be put on a brass plate. Tonight produced such an occurance.
Brass Plate Quote of the Day:
"Who's Your Daddy? Jesus is mine, the Pope is yours."
Here are some classic ones from the past...
"I don't have to rely on toothpicks for my self worth."
"That's a walking law suit."
"Don't be so mellow dramatic."

Encouragement
It's nice to hear encouraging words from a friend in a far away country, or a few states away. Thanks, Olive and Amyx.

Sometimes I find myself late at night sitting in the Joebowl on a bench staring up at the stars and earnestly asking God about His will for my life. Tonight it was so still, the sky so clear, the calmness creeping in to my swirling thoughts. Flipping through a women's devotional I've used for a while, I ran across something Hannah Whitall Smith said, "Lord, I am Thine; I do yield myself up entirely to Thee, and I believe that Thou does take me. I leave myself with Thee. Work in me all the good pleasure of Thy will, and I will only lie still in Thy hands and trust Thee." Those words pierced my heart. Have I been living that out each day? Or have I only muttered something to that effect in a midst of hurriedness in the morning, and instead applied Lauren's ways to the outcome of the day?
Things That Interest Lauren
This was a unique discovery this morning whilst checking the weather forcast. Have fun

Work
Last week and this upcoming week I'm filling in as the secretary at Boyce. Tis an interesting job: People calling, trying my best to transfer their calls--generally losing their calls, getting to talk with random people, getting to make lots of phone calls, trying to look like I know what I'm doing...

A Funeral
The Joe Bowl has offered many memories for a Southern/Boyce student. From picnics and study time, to ultimate frisbee and soccer games, it has been a refuge for fun in the sun. But tonight, this massive field held a more solemn note, for it is now a burial ground. Toto and I discovered a dead baby bird. To John's horror, I decided the "right thing" to do would be to bury it--So stick in hand, I dug a small hole by the side of a tree, instructed John to bring it over (too much complaining from him), and completed the bird's grave with flower and rock. John wouldn't listen to my pleas to say a little prayer for it, so I said one in my heart. Fascinating the things college students participate in at 10:00 at night, huh?
Howie
My Dad called me last night to inform me he found a baby kitty at work, and that it was sleeping peacefully in my Mom's arms. Shrill screams of delight from my end of the cellular device promptly woke up the peaceful kitty. I promptly named him Howie and my Mom called this morning to tell me that they are indeed going to keep the 1.2 lb of six weeks old of fluff...(Homer already despises Howie.)

Thought
"It is always surprising how small a part of life is taken up by meaningful moments. Most often they're over before they start, even though they cast a light on the future and make the person who originated them unforgettable..."

Beauty of Summer
Hooplah, it's summer! I can taste it. This afternoon I put on my most qualified bum wear (my dad's college shirt and my sweat pants), put away my school books and notes in the top shelf of my closet, am going to eat a pizza and drink sparkling grape juice, and I read one of those ridiculous magazines everyone thumbs through at the checkout line...The one that has "Baby Born as Bat Boy" or "Mother Gives Birth to Baby with Five Heads." I was informed that the Titanic never sank and has been spotted floating on the water, and also that Satan was spotted and captured in Iraq, but escaped. It's true...
Final Thoughts
My finals ended today. Hoorah. In celebration I bought a book I want to read entitled, Getting Serious About Getting Married: Rethinking the Gift of Singleness. Dr. Mohler recommeded it, so I bought it. I walked into my room late this afternoon to find J.V. studying using my ironing board as a desk...So I mentioned to her my new book. At the end of my discourse on my new find in reading material this conversation took place between us,
"I've decided to become single..."
"We can be single together..."
...But not forever.

Half Way
Today I triumphed over my Worldviews 2 final! (Ok, so it was open book, open note...) Today marks my "halfwayness" in my adventure of Finals. J.V. moved in with me for the rest of the week while she continues to move out of the dorms for the summer. Tis interesting observing two people living in a single dorm amidst studying for finals and sleeping in a single bed...

The Bible Comes to Life
Well, the post I made just minutes below on the craziness of finals may be well illustrated by this example:
Today I was finishing up the book of Psalms—due to the fact that my final for this class is tomorrow and the reading must be accomplished. Sitting out in the Jo-Bowl on a bench, I began to grow a bit weary of reading and found myself laughing over Psalm 105:34, "He spake, and the locusts came, and caterpillars, and that without number." Now, if anyone knows this campus, they are aware of the disgusting fact of all the caterpillars that come falling out of the trees (Mullins girls can sometimes be observed staring hesitantly up at the trees as they walk to Honeycutt or class). So this verse came to life as I sat on a particular bench under a caterpillar-infested tree. In my over-studied-state, I doodled (yes, in the margin of my Bible) a stick figure of an Egyptian walking under some scaffolding that was up against a pyramid with little caterpillars falling over it's head. The words, "AHHHH" can be found in a bubble over my Egyptian person, and in that brief moment, I truly could relate to the horror of the plagues in a new way....

Spring Banquet
Every year, I always feel like the "Spring Fling," as I have affectionately named it, is like the Emmys. Everyone is all dressed up, with really random people, and the atmosphere is that of mingling with old and new friends and pondering individual's fashion statements. Certainly a fascinating evening.
The food is good, pictures are taken, a towel is awarded to my dear friend J.V., and the end of the night results in watching What About Bob. (Random post to say the least.)

Heart Moments
My AWANA nights are winding down. Last night marked the ending of official nights for my Sparkies before their "awards" ceremony next week. As I wandered the halls last night, one of my little girls scratched up her knee during game time and went to the front desk in order to receive a healing band aid. Her Dad, a police officer, walked by having just gotten of duty. Her little eyes peered up at him and she asked, "Are you protecting us tonight?" A smile played on his lips and he responded with, "Do you want me to be?" To which she vigorously nodded her head. As the night came to a close, the Dad came to pick her up at the classroom I was watching. Slowly they made their way down the hall, the tall man in uniform looking lovingly down at the little 2nd grade girl walking beside him.
In those short moments, I was again reminded of the love my Savior has for me. Sometimes it's nice just to be able to raise some big eyes of uncertainty to the face of One who knows and whisper, "Will you protect me right now?" And to always have the comfort of Jesus answering, "yes."

You Know the Semester's Almost Over When...
.....One is introduced to Greg's Chinese Dialogue during a class break, it takes about 20 seconds for somone to remember just who their date for the Spring Banquet is after just stating the fact they they are excited about it, planning reality tv shows over people's lives at Boyce....Yay for the last week of classes!
